Course Description:
A two-year course, this
qualification is made up of 18 units, which specifically focus on
introducing learners to a range of knowledge, skills and techniques
in Performing Arts. The first year of the course offers students the
opportunity to gain experience in a wide range of acting, dance and
stage management. Year 1 units: performance workshop; historical
context of performance; drama Improvisation; principles of acting;
devising plays; the healthy performer; classical ballet techniques;
contemporary dance; physical theatre. The second year offers optional
routes - Dance, Acting or Technical Theatre. The delivery of the
course is student centred and project led in our professional
theatre, the Cockpit. The method of assessment is a combination of
60% practical and 40% theoretical with no end of year exam. It leads
to Level 4 Higher National Diploma/ Higher National Certificate/ BTEC
Professional Award/ Certificate/ Diploma courses. University
entrance, drama schools, or employment in the industry.
