Description
The
Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama is the National
Conservatoire of Wales. Established in 1949 at Cardiff Castle, the
college now occupies purpose-built accommodation in the castle
grounds. From January 2011, the College will open a new arts centre
complex including a new concert hall and courtyard theatre.
We provide specialist practical
and performance-based training that enables students to enter and
influence the music, theatre and related professions.
There are 550 students at the
college, approximately one third studying theatre-related subjects
and two thirds, music. Just over a quarter of our students are
postgraduates.
The college presents over 300
public performances every year, including concerts and guest
recitals, opera, musical theatre and a range of drama productions.
Performances take place at the college's theatre and recital spaces
and at a variety of external venues.
