Lecturer in Theatre Studies: Dr Nadine Holdsworth
Course Description:
At the beginning of the 1st year students will take a short technical induction to the Studio, enabling them to safely operate its lighting, sound and video equipment. Through tutor-led workshops, seminar discussions, presentations and workshops with artists, a 1st year module in Aspects of Practice will introduce several approaches to contemporary practice. In the first two terms students will focus on the areas of generating performance and writing for performance. In the third term (mainly) they will gain training in the use of video equipment and the ways in which performance may be realised in this medium. Students will consider the underlying politics, disciplines and ideas informing current work and engage in appropriate creative practices to accumulate the practical skills necessary for accomplished group work and to generate their own performance and media-based projects. The module proceeds through collaborative devising processes in each of its respective fields and work in each term progresses from tutor-led sessions toward student-led presentations. In the 2nd year students can develop their skills in camera work and editing through the Video and the Culture of the Moving Image module and further enhance these skills through specialisation in the 3rd year Practical Option module.
