Course Description:
This
three year BA undergraduate course offers students the opportunity to
both think about performance and make it. We offer a dynamic
programme, which looks at a diverse set of practices within
contemporary performance making. The emphasis is on enabling students
to devise work, both as a member of an ensemble and individually. The
programme's emphasis is on interdisciplinary and cross-disciplinary
performance works, which essentially means that we explore approaches
to devising work using concepts, ideas and stimulus from a diverse
set of art disciplines and fields of study. A key factor in our
teaching and course delivery is emphasis on the reflective
practitioner where we inspire and enable students to think of ways
that they can devise in a multiplicity of ways.
But studying Performing Arts can
also equip students with transferable skills, which they can apply to
other areas and fields of work in their further professional life and
career. The course encourages students to see themselves as an
innovative and creative maker of practice and ideas who also has a
sound understanding of the cultural industry and environment. The
course combines practical work with theoretical and conceptual
enquiry, which will enable the pursuit of a wide range of further
career possibilities. Key skills would be group work, problem
solving, creativity, project facilitation, analysis, research,
process analysis, organisation, communication, entrepreneurship,
production and performance skills, awareness of the creative
industry.
There is a double module in
‘Production Skills' with opportunities to apply technical and
sceongraphic elements through project work in the second and third
years.
Also available is a Drama
Programme that has modules in technical theatre with opportunities to
focus on technical theatre, design and stage management in subsequent
modules - likewise for the Dance Programme.
