Description
The University Centre was officially opened in May 2005 by world-famous actor Patrick Stewart, our Chancellor. The centre offers a breadth of courses and is a campus of the University of Huddersfield. The University has 19,000 students and recently received government recognition for the high quality of its courses and teaching. Many of these courses are now available to the 1,000 students based at the University Centre Oldham.
A two-year full-time course leading to a Foundation Degree in Technical Theatre (FdA). Main subject areas:lighting, sound, stage amd production management, though individual specialisation in Year 2 allows a wide choice (eg set design, projection for the theatre).
Couse is firmly based in practical activities, with approx 65% of assessment through projects and work on productions. On graduating, you can either go for a job in the industry or choose to continue your studies for a third year to gain a BA (Hons) in Technical Theatre.
The University has just spent £5m on a new building (opening Sept. 2008) to host design and performance courses, including a new performance studio 14m x 9m x 7m high, and allocated £2000,000 to equip it.
