Description
Courses in Lighting and Live Event Technology are housed in the Faculty of Advanced Technology and combine the scientific and technical knowledge with to practical and creative skills. We have our own production area (The Cube) on campus, which is used by students and visiting companies. We developed the course after consulting technical and creative professionals in the industry, including lighting directors, designers and broadcast experts. This means that what you learn will meet the industry's requirements and standards, giving you the best possible career prospects when you graduate. We are one of the leading universities for professional lighting and live event technology in the UK and the courses offer you training you won't find at any other university. As the only WYSIWYG centre outside London and the only UK university with an Authorised WYSIWYG Trainer and Certified Service Provider status, you will definitely get the highest quality teaching available. You can also be qualified to the IET 17th Edition Wiring Regulations. We have world-class facilities for lighting design and event technology. You will use a range of equipment, including Allen & Heath, JBL, Sennheiser, Sony, Martin, Varilight, Jands, JVC, Zero88, Kramer, Datavideo and Prolyte.
Our mix of theory and practice will prepare you for a career in entertainment, broadcasting, live performance and the media, event management and production companies. You may also choose to become self-employed. Latest research shows that unless the industry can recruit 30,000 new technical staff over the next decade, theatre and live music employers will face a shortage of trained technicians, including lighting directors, designers and broadcast experts.
