Course Description:
The central emphasis of this course is on exploring the creative, technical and aesthetic possibilities of digital media. This involves principally the use of computer-based technologies to manipulate video, audio, musical, photographic and textual material. At the same time, the course offers students an opportunity to examine a range of issues associated with the contemporary screen and sound-based industries. This course is especially suited to those who want to undertake intensive, individual, project-based work with computer-based media and to explore a narrower range of approaches to studying the media. So the course content is based on a strong core of modules and does not range so widely across the interdisciplinary terrain of Media Studies. Instead the focus is on the techniques and aesthetics of media arts, on digital sound and imaging and on emerging media forms.
