Course Description:
The Drama programmes at the University of Wolverhampton are practically-based, specialising in drama/performance/theatre from the 20th and 21st Centuries and applying knowledge, skills and understanding to ‘real world’ settings. The BA (Hons) degree is vocationally led and focuses on enhancing the students future employability, and combines practical skills with academic and theoretical study. A key feature is the development of work with practising professionals drawn from regional arts organisations. The new MA will allow graduates and practitioners to engage intellectually, critically and creatively with a range of drama and performance practices, and will provide a qualification to support the career development of those already working in the arts or education.
The Drama department benefits from access to the prestigious Arena Theatre on city campus. The Arena Theatre is a commercially run venue with a 170-seater auditorium, rehearsal rooms and modern lighting rigs. The Arena Theatre regularly presents performances given by our students, staff and by touring companies.
The majority of practical teaching takes place in the two large, fully equipped semi-sprung drama studios on the Wolverhampton City Campus. Lecture-based modules are normally accommodated in lecture rooms and classrooms in the nearby Millennium City Building.
