Course Description:
During your study on this programme students will create innovative and challenging theatre pieces and investigate 20th and 21st century texts, producing a unique contemporary approach to performance making, thereby uncovering the mechanics of creative activity. Students will be given the opportunity to develop ideas and practices within theatre through live, mediated and collaborative work as they become practising artists, performers or researchers in the field.
Students will explore new ways of thinking about theatre, performance-making and spectating by experiencing alternative ways of deploying time, space, bodies, actions, language, objects, images that lie outside and that run in parallel to mainstream theatre. Opportunities exist to study specialist pathways. These include: Acting and Directing; Performance Practice - creating original works such as Live Art, Performance Art, Autobiographical Performance,Visual Performance; Theatre Research - in depth academic research; Applied Theatre - exploring how theatre empowers through participation and intervention in presentational and interactional contexts for, by and with different audiences/communities.
Theatre facilities include: a suite of well-equipped performance spaces and ensemble rehearsal spaces with Public Performance Licences; production spaces; technical suite; editing and sound studio.
Other typical areas of study will cover: Text Studies; Devising for Performance; Theatre Production; Applied Practice: Political Performance; Community Arts Independent Project; Live Art Independent Project.
