Course Description:
The
foundation degree in Animation and Visual Effects will train students
for work in animation and gaming, and to some extent for TV and
film-making post-production careers. The units listed below will
develop students' 3D CGI skills and will incorporate specialist
training in motion capture systems. This course will be led by
experts in this field, and will incorporate regular links with
employers via the involvement of industry professionals.
The emphasis will be on developing
a range of skills to facilitate career progression, and there will be
a strong emphasis on liaising with industry via the undertaking of
‘live' briefs from commercial clients.
Specialist facilities and
resources:
Our state of the art facilities
support this course emphatically, along with our team of highly
skilled specialist staff. Our facilities include:
- A newly installed Colorama green
screen studio for chromakey work, especially for the combination of
‘live'-action filmmaking with virtual reality/digitally produced
characters and environments
- An industry-standard (Vicon Peak)
MoCap (Motion Capture) system that is used to animate digitally
designed characters and objects, enabling more ‘natural'
movement of virtual content
- Audio editing systems that will
allow students to mix audio for film in 5.1 surround sound
- A range of current industry
standard software packages including: Softimage Xsi, 3D Studio Max
8, Vicon IQ data cleaning software, Alias MotionBuilder, Apple Shake
compositing software, Logic Audio, Adobe After Effects
- Suites of specialist IT
facilities containing high-powered Macs and PCs.
Further Opportunities:
This course will enhance students'
employment prospects, and will develop understanding of the roles of
the many professionals involved in animation and visual effects. For
further study, students could choose to progress onto a further year
of study to complete a BA (Hons) degree.
