Senior Lecturer in Music: George Burrows
Course Description:
Creative
and Performing Arts is a distinctive course offering the opportunity
to study music, drama, video and writing and the connections between
these disciplines. The course develops both practical skills and
critical understandings of each of these subjects whilst also
exploring fascinating mixed media practices that are, now more than
ever, an important part of our culture.
Portsmouth benefits from lively
students and expert staff who enjoy working together on practical
projects that are informed and complemented by research. There are
opportunities to exploit our links with Chichester Festival Theatre,
and the New Theatre Royal, Portsmouth. Students are encouraged to get
involved and to take the initiative to pursue their own projects. In
the process they will be developing important attributes sought by
employers, including excellent communication, effective presentation
and teamwork skills.
In the second year students will
be able to choose from a number of specialist pathways in areas such
as script writing, music theatre, visual theatre, video production,
performance and poetry - equipping them with the ability to prepare
two substantial projects derived from their studies in addition to an
original piece of research.
