Team Leader for Performing Arts: Judith Hills
Course Description:
BA
(Hons) Dance allows students to experience dance as a performer,
choreographer and spectator. The programme concentrates on
contemporary dance as a performing art but allows exploration of
styles such as jazz, ballet, experimental and physical dance theatre.
Practice is supported by theory, knowledge of the professional dance
world and key practitioners within the discipline.
Students can also choose
additional modules such as Dance and the Camera and Arts in the
Community. Students will work with artists and dance companies that
tour the North East, and have opportunities to take part in community
projects such as drugs rehabilitation through dance. All modules end
in productions, performances or presentations and there are
opportunities to perform in public at all levels.
As students progress they can
choose a specific focus to suit personal preferences and career aims.
.
To fully establish the University
as a centre of excellent dance activity, we have appointed a 'Dance
Entrepreneur'. The post holder has extended partnerships with other
organisations and opportunities for students. The Dance Entrepreneur
has also established a range of community classes at Sunderland, from
Street to Salsa.
