Course Description:
Four terms of up to 13 weeks each; lectures and tutorial sessions cover the storage and handling of scenic materials, scaling up, marking out, laying in, model work, groundplans, working drawings, perspective, colour theory, sign-writing, life drawing, painting and texturing, budgeting and ordering. Students gain extensive practical experience working with professional designers and directors on productions of an exceptionally high standard for public performance. Candidates are encouraged to develop their skills towards the disciplines of a set painter, scenic artist or design assistant. This course now runs in association with the Scenic Art Departments of the Royal Opera House and the National Theatre.
