Course Description:
This
highly practical course offers students the freedom to explore key
practical and vocational aspects of contemporary theatre performance.
It is designed for those who have already studied theatre (BTEC ND,
‘A' level) or have some equivalent practical theatre experience.
The course is designed for those who are ready to explore innovative
and experimental performance.
Having established a firm
practical, conceptual and critical foundation, students will go on to
study within specialist areas such as text-based theatre, visual
theatre and dance and physical performance. They will be encouraged
to build and develop their research skills and interests in order to
inform and contextualise their own performance practice. Throughout
the three levels of the course, students will be expected to move
towards producing and performing work which reflects their engagement
with contemporary culture and which is at the cutting edge of theatre
practice.
The Honours component requires
students to undertake an extended research project leading either to
a written dissertation or to a practice-based performance piece.
Teaching, Learning and Assessment:
a variety of teaching styles are used from practical workshops
through to occasional formal lectures. The majority of assessment
will be through practical course work and there are no written
examinations.
