Course Description:
The Performance Design and Management degree is a degree course designed for anyone who wishes to pursue a career in theatre or the arts and entertainment industries as a Lighting Designer, Sound Designer, Scenic Designer or Stage Manager.
In their first semester students are introduced to the specialisms available on the course through a series of practical projects looking at how these different areas work together in the creation of a piece of performance. In year 2 students pursue their chosen specialism in a combination of classroom exercises and work on public performances. A majority of this work will be on the School of Theatre productions in which second year students either assist third years in the realisation of their designs or become members of the Stage Management team. In the third year students see their own design work realised in public performance or Stage Manage a public performance. Third year students also need to submit a dissertation which can either be a traditional dissertation of 8,000-10,000 words or a Practical Dissertation which is shorter and accompanied by a piece of practical work.
Alongside the practical work are a series of academic modules designed to inform and enhance students' work as practitioners.
