Course Description:
The aim of this two-week course is to give an introduction to stage lighting within
repertory theatre: to develop a student’s knowledge of basic skills and to improve their confidence in this field.
The course is for students with or without experience who wish to learn more about the technical and practical aspects of theatre lighting. It includes the study of: Theatrical Lighting Equipment; Technical Aspects of Stage Lighting; Introduction to the Principles of Lighting Design. A variety of styles and methods of presentation will be covered including unit set, multi-set, musicals and opera.
Students will learn how to implement a plot for selected aspects of lighting (cyclorama lighting effects, tonal lighting, moving lights, etc) in the MacOwan Theatre.
The course will culminate in a performance piece in which all students will undertake the roles of the lighting department. The course includes a backstage visit to a West End theatre. Housing is available for all London Summer Workshops.
