Course Description:
This
is a one year top-up programme for students wishing to specialise in
advanced theatre technology and stage management. You will learn to
develop your use of a range of exciting technologies and will have
the opportunity to work on different types of theatre production in
different venues. The course will equip you with the necessary
practical, analytical and transferable skills for a range of creative
careers in the arts.
Throughout the course you will
participate in programmes of technical training and in the use of
technology within theatre productions. Your work will be
contextualised through the study of contemporary theatre practices.
Modules are assessed through
assignment work, including practical work, oral presentations and
written documents.
The course prepares students to:
- Work in main house or in touring
theatre as assistant stage managers or assistant sound or lighting
technicians.
- Work as a freelance.
- Work as a performing arts
technicians in education.
- Progression to postgraduate
academic programmes (including PGCE)
You will benefit from close links
with professional theatre (in particular, the Oldham Coliseum and the
Lawrence Batley Theatre, Huddersfield) and from the vibrant Drama
activities and technical facilities at the University's Huddersfield
and Oldham campuses.
As part of your own personal
research, you will work closely with a current practitioner or
company, developing your own creative work from your connections with
them.
