Course Description:
The NCDT accredited Lighting Design programme will support and guide your development towards a professional career in the lighting industry. You will be taught the thinking and hands-on tools that will enable you to produce original and intelligent designs for a range of clients. Your training will be rooted in lighting design for theatre, but we will also introduce you to allied lighting disciplines such as designing for corporate events, architecture and live music. Whilst the programme primarily aims to support and develop your design skills, it will also give you a good preparation for other careers in the industry, for example as a Lighting Manager or Chief Electrician.
The programme has strong contacts throughout a wide range of lighting industries and works closely with a diverse range of lighting professionals to provide students with the best possible training. You will be able to observe the best practitioners, use the latest lighting technologies, and produce your own lighting designs. Most importantly, we want you to develop your confidence in your own abilities as an emerging designer or lighting professional. Therefore, we will work closely with you on developing your creative skills and ambitions, so you can become a powerful and resourceful performance maker and artist.
We do this by guiding and supporting your active engagement with the most important theories of performance and design, and by working with you not only on developing core skills in the practise of lighting, but also in thinking and listening to your collaborators.
