Course Description:
The
course brings together the practical and design interpretation skills
necessary for aspiring designers and technical specialists in
lighting for professional theatre. Students will develop their
practical expertise and understanding of the interpretation of design
ideas of others, as well as skills in creative collaboration, as dual
imperatives for the modern lighting designer and practitioner. This
course will prepare students for professional life through work
experience during study coupled with the academic knowledge and
skills developed whilst at the College.
Course highlights include work
placements which have included venues such as Trafalgar Studios,
Battersea Arts Centre, The Old Red Lion, Merton Abbey Mills Theatre,
Fairfield Halls Croydon, and the Polka Theatre, Wimbledon. The course
also includes a substantial block of study and practice in electrical
installation, necessary knowledge and preparation for future
employment, delivered by our partner institution Carshalton College.
Graduates of the course may
successfully go on to enter the theatre profession as designers or
technical specialists in lighting for professional theatre or
associated industries, or continue their studies through progression
to the third year of a BA Honours programme at the College.
