Course Description:
The
MA in Theatre Design provides you with advanced training in one of
the following specialist areas: scenography; set design; costume
design; costume realisation; lighting design; sound design; puppetry.
The first year is an intensive,
full time programme. You will learn through project-based classes,
studio workshops and practical engagement in live productions. You
will gain a knowledge and appreciation of the process of design and
realisation for performance, and an applied knowledge of skills
related to your specialist area of study.
On successful completion of the
first year you will be eligible for a Postgraduate Diploma
qualification. You can then begin working on the second part of the
MA. Stage two is directly embedded in your practice as a design
practitioner. With a maximum limit of 5 years the MA student will
re-engage with the College to create a portfolio that evaluates and
contextualises your practice. The College will provide practical and
academic support and mentoring onsite or through distance learning
methods, allowing you to continue your practice nationwide or beyond
The nature of your submitted portfolio has enormous flexibility and
can range from a formal written document, to a catalogued exhibition.
