Course Description:
Full time 2 years or part time 3 years
The development of a theatrical event is one of the most collaborative processes in the field of design. The experience offered in this programme of study is strongly located in theatre design, production and contemporary performance practice. Students will be introduced to a range of fundamental theatre design and practice disciplines in an integrated experience. At Level 1 of the programme students engage in the basic disciplines that contribute to the Theatre making process and which inevitably overlap and inform each other, Costume/Wardrobe; Lighting/Sound and Set Design/Scenic Arts. As students progress through the programme it is possible to maintain engagement with all basic disciplines or to further develop a specialist focus.
Following the successful completion of the Foundation Degree and a bridging programme of studies, students will be able to progress onto further academic study on the BA (Hons) Theatre Design and Practice programme at Croydon College.
The driving force behind the foundation degree is employability and it has been developed with National Occupational Standards and the views and opinions of industry collaborators leading the curriculum design but uniquely sits within the school of Art and Design centring its ethos in achievement of creative excellence and experimentation.

This programme is for those students interested in performing and who want to pursue a career in the Performing Arts industry or who want to progress on to a BTEC National Diploma in Music Technology or Technical Theatre at Croydon College or other institutions. This programme will provide plenty of practical experience in the many productions that students will be involved in.
